No. Exit Strategy is a straight
thriller
featuring Nadia Stafford, an ex-cop turned hitwoman. It's
still suspense, in the same vein as my Otherworld series, but
without any paranormal elements.
I started Exit Strategy in 2003.
Bitten and Stolen
weren't finding a market as quickly as the publisher hoped, so I
decided to try something different. I love crime novels, so I
decided that's what I'd work on. Then
Dime Store Magic sold to a different American publisher as part
of a three book deal, so I returned to that series. With the
release of Dime Store Magic, the series
finally took off, and Exit Strategy fell by
the wayside, unfinished.
A couple years later, my agent asked whether I wanted to pick up
Exit Strategy again. I did. I
loved the characters and the concept, and I regretted moving on.
For me, a second series means a change of pace and a chance to
stretch creatively.
The release schedule for the Otherworld hasn't changed, nor has
the amount of time or attention I give each of the books.
In the last year, I've rearranged my workload (including getting
an assistant to help with the non-writing side of the business)
so I spend more of my time doing the part I love: writing.
That frees me to take on extra projects like this. I'm
interested in branching out, not switching genres.
Currently I'm contracted for two books. I know, that's not
a series, but calling it a duology only confuses people.
Whether the series goes beyond two books depends on how well
those first two sell!
