My Otherworld Soundtrack
Sometimes when I'm creating characters, I hear a
song that seems particularly suited to that character—be it the
lyrics, the theme or just the general feel of the tune. So these
are songs that have inspired me, in some way, in the writing of the
Otherworld books. I've listed the songs, with the
character/relationship they represent, my comments and links to the
songs at Puretracks (Canada) and iTunes. And with over 35%
Canadian content, it's CRTC approved for listening north o' the
border!
The playlist is short, but will grow as the series progresses.

this one is for Elena &
Clay. On one live version, Margo Timmons
introduces it as a "song about falling in love with someone
you probably shouldn't"...and that says it all.

2. Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon

I always knew if I ever wrote a werewolf book, I'd
need a tailor-suited guy whose hair is "perfect". Hence Karl
Marsten.

3. Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin

Paige's song. Not that the lyrics suit her—she isn't
that bad, but the title is perfect, at least for her character
when we first meet her.

Adam's song. A fun little tune for my fun-loving
half-demon whose world is always
on fire.

Paige & Lucas's song. The perfect "crazy for you" tune
for my head-over-heels-in-love couple.

When I was creating Jaime's character, this song was getting
airplay, and it summed up my image of her perfectly. Here's
to my character most likely to wake up with a snake tattoo.

More Amanda Marshall...and more Jaime. This one's for
Jaime and Jeremy, and it sums up how I foresee that relationship progressing (or
not progressing!)

8. White Flag - Dido

More Elena and Clay. It's down here because I started
hearing it while writing the Beginnings novella, and it was
the perfect song for Clay, the guy who "left too much mess &
destruction to come back again," but refuses to surrender.

9. Witchy Woman - Eagles

Eve. Yeah, too obvious really, but the first stanza is
perfect: "Raven hair and ruby lips,
sparks fly from her finger tips...she's a restless spirit on an
endless flight." For my restless spirit.
