Spring 2009. It was scheduled for fall 2008, but they've
moved the Otherworld series from a spring schedule to a fall one,
so they swapped book 9 with Nadia 2. I'll have excerpts up
later this year.
The first book in a young adult trilogy set in the same universe as
The Otherworld, but with new characters. You'll find a page
for it here and an entire website for it at
www.ChloeSaunders.com.
I've started not revealing the narrator until
the book is done. That way, if I start one and it doesn't
work out, I have total freedom to start over. When a book is
done, I'll put a page for it on the website with details. The
next book (#9) is here: Living with the Dead.
I'm currently contracted to 10 books, and
already working on the tenth, so she doesn't have one yet. I
have every hope of giving her a book when (if!) my contract is
extended. And it would likely be very soon after that
extension begins.
I'm getting asking this a lot. The problem
is timing. I won't "soap opera age" the kids--having them
jump from 3 to 16 in one year. So many years (and many
books!) would need to pass before I decided that. For now,
they're remaining in the background, with brief progress updates.
When they're a bit older, they would likely start playing larger
roles in the books.
I don't choose the art. In fact, with most of the covers, I
don't see them until they're done. This is common with the
"big" publishers. It's only with small publishers (or really
big names) that the author gets a significant say in the cover art.
It's a marketing decision, and I leave it to the pros.
I have a "narrator
backlog"—more potential narrators than books in the current
contract! The next few are all narrative newbies—Jaime,
Hope, Cassandra and Savannah are scheduled (subject to change)
None of the current
ones have been retired yet. Their return depends, as it
always does, on whether I come up with the perfect plot for that
person. In the meantime, they'll continue to get online
fiction narrative roles.
Nothing. Warner Bros didn't renew their
option. If it gets picked up by another studio, we could see
a movie someday, but I really wouldn't hold my breath on it.
I'm currently contracted through ten.
Whether it goes beyond that will depend on three factors. Do
readers want more? Does the publisher want more? And am
I prepared to write more? I likely won't be making any
decisions myself until I'm writing #10.
My series was given the title "Women of the
Otherworld" meaning they really want to see women narrating.
I did do a secondary male narrator (Lucas) for Personal Demon.
There will also be some major male narration in Living with the
Dead. And most of the novellas and short stories are male
narrated. But that's as far as I've been able to stretch the
requirements of that series title so far!
Bitten, No Humans Involved and
Personal Demon are
currently in audio. Dime Store Magic, Industrial
Magic, Haunted and Broken are expected to follow
by the end of 2009.
The books started in eBook form with Industrial Magic.
Apparently they've gone back and done Bitten and Dime
Store Magic, meaning Stolen is, once again, the odd one
out.
If my name is the only one on
the cover, then it's a non-English version of one of my current
novels. Like "Jauria," which is the Spanish version of
Bitten.
If other names are on the cover, then I probably contributed a
short story or introduction. I list these on my
Contributions
page.
No. Anything that is still to come falls
under the category of future spoilers, and I never answer reader
questions that I plan to answer in the series. Sorry!
Don't see your question? There are two ways to ask me...
Post it on my board in
"Ask the Author."
So long as it's only a question or two, I'll be quick (usually
within 48 hrs). Post a long list of questions, though, and
it's no faster than emailing.
Email it to my assistant.
If it's a quick question
(eg. when does the next book come out) she can probably answer, and
if not, she'll forward it to me.
