September 2008
I have new contracts in Canada and the UK for Otherworld books
11-13. That just happened, so I'm still in negotiations
with the US, but you can expect an announcement very soon!
Book 11 will be Savannah. As for book 10, the narrator
been...mentioned here and there... The official
announcement will come next month after the book is delivered.
If you watched Buffy and Angel on TV, you may know
that they continued the next season in comics. With the
Angel ones, Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch are writing it now.
Their story arc will end early next year, and a new writer will
take over for the next 5 issue story arc...and that writer is
me. More details will come later this year. For now,
this is just to say that if you heard that rumour, yes, it's
true...and I'm thrilled.
The Summoning
is a NYT bestseller! It climbed to #5 on the
children's list (yes, YA is lumped in with children's) A
huge thanks to everyone who gave it a try.
The first newsletter for that series comes out Sept 15.
It'll be a bit different from the Otherworld one, with less
focus on the books themselves and more on related topics
(supernatural phenomena, writing, etc) To sign up for that
one, click here.
Exit Strategy was nominated for a Shamus
for Best Paperback original. The award is for crime novels
featuring a private eye type detective. A nice pat on the
back for my "other" series. If you've read this one, the
sequel, Made to Be Broken, will be out
in March and I'll have sample chapters up next month.
I caused some confusion--and consternation--with the first two
chapters of Living with the Dead, when readers found two
narrators they didn't recognize. So, just to assure people
that this is the world they're familiar with and they will see
familiar faces, I've added Hope's first chapter, which is
chapter three (well, technically two, as I consider the first
more of a brief prologue.) You'll find it linked off the
main page for Living with the Dead.
September's book is Stephen King's The Gunslinger, hosted by
jamesangus.
For October our pick is A Rush of Wings by Adrian
Phoenix, hosted by Donna.

This month we have an enter-to-win and a trivia contest.
The prize? A signed copy of
Bitten, Stolen, Dime Store Magic,
Industrial Magic,
Haunted,
Broken, No Humans
Involved, Personal Demon, Exit
Strategy or The Summoning.
At the end of the month, I'll draw one winner for each contest.

The winner of the August contests were Adam from England and TBA.
** TBA = To Be Announced (i.e. I haven't heard back from the winner)
